Disinfectants: corona virus

The recent corona virus (also 2019-nCoV or Covid-19) has spread rapidly across the world since its onset in China. Although there is no reason to panic, the World Health Organization (WHO) is meanwhile treating it as a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC). Due to the increasing number of new infections every day and the difficult containment of the infection chain, the question arises for many people: How to protect myself against corona with an effective disinfectant?

Which disinfectants are effective against the virus?

The corona viruses, belonging to the family Coronaviridae, are so-called enveloped viruses. In addition to the transmission path from person to person, also touched surfaces pose a risk of infection. The German Robert-Koch-Institute recommends the use of disinfection agents with the activity spectrum “limited virucidal” (effective against enveloped viruses), “limited virucidal PLUS” or “virucidal”.

However, many disinfectants available in drugstores or retail do not meet these requirements.

Chlorine dioxide: effective active ingredient against the corona virus
