Product information:

Potassium sorbate is used as a preservative in a wide range of applications. It is an essential component of production processes not only in the food industry but also in sectors such as beverages, meat and sausage products, sports and health products, personal care, pet food, and agricultural additives, to name just a few.

Potassium sorbate is the salt of sorbic acid (E200). Although it naturally occurs in plants like rowan berries, it is commercially produced through a synthetic process that does not involve genetically modified bacteria or fungi.

Potassium sorbate is primarily used as a preservative because it has almost no taste or odor, thus not significantly altering the properties of the final product.

One advantage of potassium sorbate over sorbic acid is its excellent solubility in both water and fats. No animal products are used in the production of potassium sorbate.

Market information:

Currently, prices for products from the chemical industry in Asia are showing a slight decline in many areas, mainly due to the recent drop in freight rates. This trend is also noticeable with potassium sorbate, with prices having softened recently.

The further development of freight rates from Asia to Europe, especially concerning the upcoming collaboration between Maersk and Hapag Lloyd, remains to be seen.

As in the past, since most of the demand for the coming year is covered between September and December, there may again be shortages in availability, and reaching the duty-free quota could become critical. Therefore, we recommend timely demand planning and contract conclusion.

Outlook:

Due to the political situation in the Far East and Eastern Europe, as well as the upcoming presidential elections in the USA, the forecast for price development and availability is unfortunately difficult to predict. The still somewhat subdued global economic development could put pressure on prices, but unexpected reactions and political impulses could also have opposite effects and consequences.

We are closely monitoring further developments and welcome inquiries about your contract volumes.
